Don’t Sweat the Small stuff

A number of years ago I remember reading a book with the title “Don’t sweat the small stuff and It’s all small stuff”

This book was a great read and I’d highly recommend it if you haven’t had a chance to read it yet.

I remember at the time there was a point that Richard Carlson the author made about making checklists and how they can create stress. Oh man do I feel it right now.  I’ve never been a checklist person, but recently because of all the things that I THINK NEED TO BE DONE, I’ve started. I remember reading about how there is always something next on the list and it can become overwhelming and it’s true. I check one thing off, but add two more. But over the weekend, the image above reminded me of this book and specifically that point.  No matter what I do or how much I accomplish there will be the next thing to do.  This weekend, we got the entire family involved in the work that needed to get done.  We had a blast doing it! These moments reminded me that now matter what there will always be something that NEEDS to be done, but there won’t always be these moments we can get to do it with your loved ones.  Whether it’s a spouse, your kids, or your parents, slow down and enjoy the process because while it may take more time or you may need to redo something, you’ll never get these moments back. I noticed that several times throughout the weekend, we found ourselves actually not doing work at all, but rather enjoying a great conversation that we may not have had had we not slowed down to work with each other!

There will always be something to do, but not necessarily someone to do it alongside you!  I promise you’ll never regret a moment or time spent with your kids or your spouse!

Never let work get in the way of the things that matter most in your life. Slow down and take the time to enjoy your loved ones around you!
